VITA

SASKIA FREDERICA HEYDEN

Berliner by background, I graduated in 2005 from the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester with the film „Riding the Wind of Change“. In 2007 I completed the Cultural Studies programme at the European University Viadrina with a work on “Sensory Knowledge in the Field and Evocative Forms of Knowledge Construction” as well as further exploring the audio-visual arts and documentary filmmaking with projects based in Berlin's transgender scene. My documentary “Risk, Stretch, or Die” (60 Min. 2007) has recently been presented within the series “New German Cinema” in Berlin. Currently I am Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky's assistant for his documentary “Vivan las Antipodas!” and am preparing my new film project.

ARTIST’s STATEMENT: I am interested in the topic of shifting identities. Throughout my work as a filmmaker I ask: Who are we? Who do we want to be? And why?
